Rules & Info
- Fishing is not permitted within the Marine National Park Zones (Green Zones) under the Marine Parks Act 2004 and the Great Sandy Marine Park Zoning Plan 2024.
- Tackle restrictions apply in the Conservation Park Zones (Yellow Zones), and speed and access restrictions apply in the Go-Slow Zones and No Motorized Vessel Areas.
- The event is to be fished between the hours noted in the event program from Friday to Sunday of the weekend that it is set to be held only. Please note, Times can be subject to change.
- Cadet categories [15 & Under]: Whiting, Bream, Flathead, Dart, Grunter, Cod, Mangrove Jack, Mackerel, Sweetlip, Other Species.
- Adult categories [16 & Over]: Whiting, Bream, Flathead, Dart, Grunter, Cod, Mangrove Jack, Snapper, Mackerel, Cobia, Parrot, Sweetlip, Coral Trout, Red Emperor, Other Species.
- Open categories: Mud Crab, Biggest Fish.
- Category Winners: 1st Place, 2nd Place, Secret Weight
- Overall Winners: Best Junior Angler, Best Senior Angler, Biggest Fish
- Fish categories – Excluded Species: Barracuda (All Types), Long Tom, Sucker Fish, Grinners, Paddies, Trigger Fish, Pig Fish, Happy Moments, Yellow Tails [Bloaters], Herring (All Types), Rainbows, Surgeon Fish. Note* Please refer to DPI laws for full prohibited species list.
- Weigh-In Official – A Weigh in Master Will Be Appointed by Queensland Fishing Classics (QFC) Event Coordinator who will Resolve any dispute matters in relation to the weigh-ins.
- Fish may be iced down, but not frozen, any fish deemed, in the opinion of the appointed weigh-in master, to be more than 24 hours since being caught or have been frozen will be ineligible to be weighed in – any decision made will be final, and no discussion will be entered.
- Only fish weighed in on the official scales provided by the organizers and accompanied by competitor’s registration ticket will be eligible.
- Fish presented to the scales must be taken on rod and reel or handline (i.e., NO NETS or SPEARED fish will be accepted).
- All eligible fish must be weighed in by the times noted in the event program for each day of the event. Please note, Times are different for each day and can be subject to change.
- Any fish presented after the nominated times will not be accepted.
- Only two (2) fish per species per angler will be accepted and eligible for that category.
- There will be a prize for the heaviest fish of each category and in the event of a tie the first fish weighed will be awarded the winner.
- Mystery weights on all fish will only be revealed during the presentations. Weights will be selected at random via a ball drawing system, from the appointed weigh master & Officials.
- All Fish are required to be gutted and gilled for weigh-in. If fish are required to be Gutted & Gilled, A donation can be made towards the nominated club to assist with doing so. All frames, Fillets, waste shall be removed from the precinct premises by the owning angler.
- No fish are to be Gutted or Gilled/Processed in or near the comp precinct by competitors.
- Competing anglers shall follow all current QLD Fisheries DPI regulations & governing fish sizes and bag limits. Any competing angler who does not meet current rules and regulations will be deemed ineligible for any prize and have the ticket cancelled without refund.
- All boats used in the Event must comply with all current Queensland’s boating regulations.
- All prizes won at the event will be given in good faith and are subject to manufacturers or suppliers’ conditions and Queensland Fishing Classics (QFC) and/or officials Will not be held liable.
- No junior can win an adult prize, and no adult can win a junior prize with the exception that juniors and seniors may compete for the same prize in the Open Categories.
- If only 1 fish is weighed in for the category the angler will be awarded first prize and second prize along with the secret weight for that category.
- Entrants MUST be present to win any draws and produce their Registration Ticket to establish identity. A redraw will be held if winner does not claim a draw prize within two (2) minutes. Winners of the major draws will also require a form of ID as proof of identity.

- Management & officials have the right to exclude anyone whom they think need be, without giving reason.
- Any action, incident or situation not covered by the rules shall be determined by Management & officials if or when those conditions arise. The Management and/or officials’ decision is final, and no further discussion will be entered.
- The interpretation and implementation of these rules and regulations shall remain the province of Queensland Fishing Classics (QFC) and its designated officials.
- Event partners & sponsors who have entered the event via nomination are eligible to claim prizes, enter promotional draws and partake in all associated activities.
- Organizers or Sponsors accept no liability for any injury, damage of any person during excursion whether such an injury is due to any act, neglect, or default of any official or agent.
- All competitors fully understand that in participating in the event they do so entirely at their own risk.
- Queensland Fishing Classics (QFC) will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury, or death or other claims sustained in conjunction to or prior to, or during or after the event howsoever caused.
- Upon entering the event precinct, you understand and agree to them with the following:
- By entering into the comp precinct, you authorize for Queensland Fishing Classics (QFC) to use any audio/visual imagery taken of yourself via photography, video content, drone footage and audio recordings for purposes of material produced for education, promotion, marketing, or advertising for (including but not limited to) print, media releases, radio, TV, website, social media, graphics, editorials, banners, stickers, shirts, Corflutes and/or street signs. Also, unless otherwise stated, there will be no restrictions on the geographical distribution of the material produced.
- During the event, the venue and other designated areas will be licensed, and alcohol will be available for purchase and consumption within these areas, however no BYO alcohol or food are permitted to be brought into the venue and/or precinct during the event;
- Queensland Fishing Classics (QFC) Precinct location is classed as a Non-Smoking area. Designated outdoor smoking area locations are provided by the venue.
- Queensland Fishing Classics (QFC) accepts no liability for any property left at the event venue location. During the event, if chairs and other items remain within the venue, they may be relocated within precinct and QFC accepts no responsibility. All property (including chairs) that remain in the precinct after the final day of the event closure on Sunday will be disposed of or donated to charity.
