10 Years Of Beers, Cheers & Stories About The One’s That Got Away!

What started out as a few family and friends sitting around throwing ideas back and forward about things to do and events that would make this already great place thrive, It was suggested that we host a fishing competition as a way to attract locals alike along with new visitors to our small seaside town and help promote and boost business not only for the hotel, But also the other local businesses within the township and surrounding areas.

With that being said, In 2015 our first un-official committee was formed (Namely Family) and the wheels set into motion for the first inaugural Woodgate Beach Hotel Fishing Classic to be held in September of 2016. Our first year was a hit with only having a total prize pool of around $4500 total and 60 entrants (Mostly family, friends & Locals) to kick things off, we knew that we had discovered something great not only for the local businesses within the township of Woodgate, But also for the greater community & region. After the success of our first year, we decided to go bigger and better each year and continuing to grow our comp in large numbers year on year. This was all made possible by opening up the event to sponsorship opportunities and getting the local businesses involved to assist in increasing our prizes and giveaways and make it all the more appealing for the keen anglers and families to make the journey each year to the event.

QFC (Queensland Fishing Classics) was founded in 2023 from the succusses of a competition based in Woodgate Beach – ‘Woodgate Beach Fishing Classic’. Since the start of the WBFC in 2015, The event has grown from strength to strength now selling out year on year, with the town at its capacity. Founder and director Brandon Lindeberg is passionate about the classic fishing events and what it does for the local community. We have a unique approach to how we run the classics with the kids as big focus point at each event!

Celebrating 10 years in 2026, Queensland Fishing Classics (QFC) have given the WBFC’s anniversary year a fresh new re-brand with both the name and logo getting an upgrade!
